Defensible Space
A buffer between a structure and its surroundings
She said the sky is full of wildfire smoke
He said close the windows
seal the cracks with masking tape
She said there’s a thin layer of ash on the picnic table
He said the rain will take care of it
She said the sky is gray, flat like slate
He said you have no depth perception
She said you have no horizon
no purple blue mountains in the distance
He said there’s a health alert
we should stay inside
She said I’ll hibernate in the kitchen
make a pizza from scratch, garlic-basil crust
relish it with mushrooms, black olives
He said this is not about food
She said I’ve always been hungry
He said I’ll hibernate in the den, balance the check book
watch the Packer game
light a cigar
She said this is all about inhaling smoke
He said this is all about weather
