A mind in love…

with June by
August is a
brittle sponge.

relentless winds
churn waves of
sand and dust,
leaving the tongue
gritty.

they do not speak
of September’s
hurricanes, of
October’s killing
frost, the cracked
lips, the dry eyes—

or of November’s
bare trees and
dark clouds,
election day and
the lies that leave
a heart weary.
